Letter from June 15, 2015

How are things back home?? I'm on pins and needles waiting for mom and dad to arrive here in Peru!!! Just two more weeks and they will be but 2 hours away by bus (my zone actually touches their mission and parts of it used to BE their mission!) #nuts! And although I still won't get to see them until my mission is over, it'll be nice to have the moral support and knowledge that my pops will understand just a little of what it's like to be in a northern coastal mission of Peru. :)

This week was another toughy. We have spent full days knocking doors this week because we have pretty much lost all our investigators. But hey, Hermana Monson and I have just decided to have fun. This work is supposed to be fun, isn't it? We are teaching the plan of happiness, aren't we?? We better look like we are happy and having fun or who is gonna let us in their house? So as we experienced quite a  it of rejection and quite a few disappointments this week, we sang songs, told stories, memorized scriptures, and just laughed. This is not to say that we have been any less obedient, diligent, or focused as always... we have just been practicing our patience in waiting for the success! But it is ALL according to the Lord's time. One of my favorite scriptures of all time is Isaiah 55:8-9, which says: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

But let's just keep going here... verses 10-12 are my favorite: "For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. " AMEN! These hard times come so we may grow. Proclaiming His word will never be in vain. Just go forth and be happy! Isaiah? "What, like it's hard?" #namethatmovie

Anywho, I love being a missionary. I have no reason to be anything but happy. We have the greatest knowledge on earth; it really is a pleasure to share it! As Ammon said in Alma 26:12: "Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore, I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever. "

I love you all, and so does the Lord!

Love, Hermana Rasmussen
